I'm so excited to join the Sulky Block party with all of my friends!
My daughter is quite smitten with Mandala designs, and I can see why. She shared with me that she wanted something that would complement her new couch, and when Sulky asked me if I could join the Block Party, I knew exactly what I wanted to do!
Supplies:

- Sulky12wt Petites
- Sulky Cotton & Steel 50 wt Thread
- Background fabric - 3/4 yard
- Accent fabric - fat quarter
I found a mandala design I liked, and used my Daylight Company Wafer 2 Lightbox to retrace it and simplify the design. I scanned it back into my computer and printed it onto Sulky Stick’nStitch.
I stitched out the design by hand to achieve the look I wanted, but you could also use a machine embroidery design to complete your block.
The block finishes as 24-1/2" x 24-1/2" so it makes a great mini quilt, pillow, or even the center medallion for a larger quilt.
Cutting:
Background Fabric
1 - 9x9 (design should fit in an 7" x7" space and then trimmed to 8x8 after stitching)
4 - 6-1/2" x 6-1/2"
4 - 5-1/4" x 5-1/4"
2 - 2" x 21-1/2"
2 - 2" x 24-1/2"
Accent Fabric
2 - 1-1/2" x 8"
2 - 1-1/2" x 10"
4 - 1-1/2" x 5-1/4"
4 - 1-1/2" x 6-1/4"
8 - 1-3/4" x 8-1/2"
Assembly:
Download and print 4 copies of the foundation paper template.
Shorten your machine's stitch length to 1.5
For each template use 1 - 6-1/2" x 10-1/2" background and 2 - 1 3/4" x Accent 8-1/2".
After adding Accent piece A2 trim seam allowance to 1/4” between A1 and A2. Save the background fabric cut off to use for A3
Repeat for A4 and A5.
Make 4.
Trim on dotted line, size 6-1/4" x 10"
- Trim Center piece to 8" x 8"
- Add Accent fabric 1-1/2" x 8" to left and right side of center square
- Add Accent fabric 1-1/2" x 10" to top and bottom of center size 10" x 10"
- Add Accent fabric 1-1/2" x 5-1/4" to left side of 5-1/4" x 5-1/4" Background square. Make 4.
- Add Accent fabric 1-1/2" x 6-1/4" to the bottom of 5-1/4" x 5-1/4" Background square. Make 4. Size 6-1/4" x 6-1/4"
- Make rows as shown
- Sew rows together Size 21-1/2" x 21-1/2"
- Add 1-1/2" x 21-1/2" Background to left and right side of block
- Add 1-1/2" x 24-1/2" to top and bottom of block
